Circa 1890s No. 2 Tubular Lantern Noah L Piper & Son Toronto, Canada. Railroad?

One of a number of vintage mostly railroad lanterns recently acquired at auction.  We’re not particularly knowledgeable as to railroadiana so please view pics and ask any questions.  Nice looking old lantern.  Seems to be a hard to find make.  Clear, plain, glass globe. Marked with Patent Applied For dates in 1880s and 1890s.
